Bengawan UV Team of UNS Crowned Grand Champion at 2024 KRTI Competition

UNSThe Bengawan UV Team from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has again achieved remarkable success by emerging as the grand champion at the 2024 Kontes Robot Terbang Indonesia (KRTI). Competing against 100 teams from 42 universities across Indonesia, the research team claimed top honors in this prestigious event. The Bengawan UV Team UNS participated in four categories: Racing Plane Division, Fixed Wing Division, Vertical Take-Off Landing (VTOL) Division, and Technology Development Division. The competition was held at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) and Gading Airfield, Yogyakarta, from Thursday (12/9/2024) to Wednesday (18/9/2024).

“Alhamdulillah, all four teams reached the finals and successfully secured first place in the Fixed Wing category, first place and the Excellent Flight Award in the Racing Plane category, third place in VTOL, and the title of Grand Champion,” Aldi Fahli Muzaqih, Technical Manager of the Bengawan UV Team UNS, said.

The Narash BUV UNS team clinched first place in the Racing Plane Division, outperforming 56 teams from various universities across Indonesia. They recorded the fastest flight time, finishing the 1,4 km race in just 33 seconds, and received the “Excellent Flight Award.” Meanwhile, the Bamantara BUV UNS team took first place in the Fixed Wing Division. This division’s mission involved monitoring and mapping disaster impacts and delivering emergency supplies along river streams, with a flight range of 15 km, flown autonomously.

The Akasha Bathara BUV UNS team secured third place in the VTOL Division, where the mission required the autonomous transport of an object within an indoor area. Additionally, the Akasha Seva BUV UNS team achieved second place in the Technology Development Division during the regional selection for Division 1. This division focuses on independently developing and integrating modular aircraft with IoT-based electronic speed controllers and ground control stations for disaster mitigation support.

Aldi explained that the Bengawan UV Team began preparing as early as February, well before the competition rules were announced, allowing ample time for research ahead of the 2024 KRTI. The team was mentored by four lecturers: Prof. Dr. Eng. Syamsul Hadi, S.T., M.T., Dr. Ir. Nurul Muhayat, S.T., M.T., R. Lullus Lambang G. Hidajat, S.T., M.T., and Prof. Ir. Dominicus Danardono Dwi Prija Tjahjana, S.T., M.T.

“This grand championship exceeded our expectations. Initially, we only aimed to have each team reach the podium in the KRTI finals this year. The team’s hard work, dedication, and maximum effort made it possible to achieve these results. As the technical lead, I am extremely proud of my teammates for delivering their best and overcoming top universities that usually dominate the KRTI competition,” Aldi added.

Aldi encouraged his teammates not to become complacent with this year’s achievement, emphasizing that maintaining the title of grand champion will be even more challenging than winning it.
