What Has Happened to Non-COVID Patients?

As we face one of history's most deadly pandemics, nurses and other health care professionals are working long hours and under extremely stressful conditions. Most medical attention has been focused on treating COVID patients and protecting others from infection. What has happened to these non-COVID patients during this pandemic? Are they able to receive sufficient and adequate care in time?

As nurses, we care for all patients. Nurses not only care for the COVID patients at all stages of the disease but also manage patients with non-COVID medical problems, particularly those with time-sensitive and/or medically complex conditions who may postpone their care. Many of the articles in this issue of The Journal of Nursing Research were submitted by nurses who have been working tirelessly to fight for every individual’s health and care. Article topics include, women with gestational diabetes, patients with chronic low back pain, lung cancer patients receiving chemotherapy, and nurses’ resilience and stress perceptions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

From the articles, it is evident that nurses care about both COVID and non-COVID patients. So many nurses out there have shone extra brightly during this crisis.

We Salute You, Our Nursing Heroes!!!
