FT UNS Donates Electric Motorcycles to SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta to Promote Vehicle Electrification

UNSThe Faculty of Engineering (FT) at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has again demonstrated its strategic role in supporting sustainable energy transformation through technological innovation. Through the Industrial Engineering and Techno-Economics Research Group (RG RITE), FT UNS donated two converted electric motorcycles to SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta. This initiative is part of a Community Service Program themed “Strengthening the Business Engineering Model for Electric Motorcycle Conversion Workshops at Vocational Schools.” The handover ceremony took place on Friday (20/12/2024) at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta.

The electric motorcycles, originally Yamaha Mio Soul and Honda Beat 10 models powered by internal combustion engines, were converted as part of a Student Creativity Program (PKM) managed by FT UNS. The program aims to provide practical experience for students while supporting secondary education institutions in developing environmentally friendly vehicle technologies. Dr. Ir. Fakhrina Fakhma, S.T.P., M.T., a researcher from RG RITE at FT UNS, explained that this initiative seeks to enhance students’ understanding of electric vehicle technology and prepare them for the rapidly growing era of vehicle electrification.

Sriyono, the Headmaster of SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta, expressed his appreciation for FT UNS’s initiative. He hopes electric motorcycles can be used as practical learning tools for students, particularly in the automotive engineering department. “This will allow students to develop technical skills relevant to modern industry needs, including knowledge of the increasingly popular electric vehicles,” Sriyono said.

FT UNS remains committed to fostering collaborations with various educational and industrial institutions. In addition to supporting government programs to promote electric vehicle adoption, this initiative aligns with FT UNS’s mission to pioneer environmentally friendly technological innovation as an institution focused on green technology development.

The donation of these electric motorcycles is a tangible demonstration of FT UNS’s efforts to popularize electric vehicle technology in Indonesia. Through fostering collaboration between academics, students, and educational institutions, FT UNS aims to cultivate a generation of skilled youth ready to compete in the energy transition era.
