Grief's Terrain

After she died I lapsed

Into release,

Clung to myths for a while,

Scraped my knees chasing rabbits into holes

But felt no pain,

Reached for low branches

But had no grip

And let go, landing but not hard enough to come to,

Sought answers from the sage and the streams

But could no longer translate their voice,

Could no longer find comfort in the stars or their maker,

Know intimacy in an old embrace

Or see enough light

To read the signs.

And here is where it has led me
