Department of Biochemistry is headed by Dr. Muhammad Naveed Najeeb. It is a vital subject of basic medical sciences covering necessary topics regarding chemistry of life and any consequences in case of mutation or deficiency. Students are taught the chemical processes taking place in living organisms. Structure, function and metabolism of cellular components such as proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids and other biomoleculesis studied.

Biochemistry has its scope from system to molecular level, as there can be no defined line between biochemistry and molecular genetics. Structure and function of genes is taught to gain knowledge of disease and its effects that include clinical genetics and techniques for gene therapy.
