Pharmacology

Our mission is to provide eminent preclinical & clinical education to undergraduate medical students and equip the postgraduate students with all the necessary technical skills of pharmacology and therapeutics which can enable the aspirants to serve fundamentally on national and international grounds.

OBJECTIVES OF PHARMACOLOGY

The prime objective of Pharmacology is to unfold and understand the biochemical mechanisms which regulate and control cellular and molecular functions. It enables us to comprehend how existing drugs act and how can we develop new drugs for better treatment and diagnosis of human diseases. The Pharmacology discipline explores biology & physiology via the actions of drugs and chemical substances as it is evident that drugs produce their effects only through modifications of underlying physiological processes. These actions not only regulate normal functions of cells, but also abnormal processes occurring in disease.

SCOPE OF PHARMACOLOGY

The broad scope of pharmacology ranges from the study of intermolecular reactions of chemical constituents of cells with drugs to the effects of drugs and recognized therapeutic agents on mammalian physiological organ systems. Professional pharmacologists opt for careers in basic research and teaching in academics, in steering advanced research in the pharmaceutical/ biotech industries, or for government drug safety & regulatory laboratories and ensure the safety of drugs and chemicals. Regardless of the working domain, it is perilous to have sound knowledge of genomics, proteomics, cellular & molecular biology, integrated biological systems, and chemistry.
