Food and medicine have historically gone hand in hand. Indeed, the quote “let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” is often attributed to Hippocrates, who was known to be a firm believer in the power of diet and lifestyle. Today, many medical doctors have an influential presence on social media, openly promoting weight loss, diets, and lifestyle choices. Physicians also make up the largest authorship group when it comes to books on nutrition, and readers are four times more likely to pick up one of these than a book by a nutritionist or dietitian.
