Intratympanic Membrane Cholesteatoma in a Toddler

Intratympanic cholesteatoma (ITC) is a rare keratinous epithelial cyst of the tympanic membrane. A girl in her early childhood was referred to the otorhinolaryngology clinic following concerns about a pearly white mass in the pars tensa in the left ear. Enucleation of the lesion was performed under a general anaesthetic with a Rosen needle. A histological analysis confirmed cholesteatoma. A comprehensive assessment by an otolaryngologist is important in determining appropriate, timely surgical intervention and minimising complications such as tympanic membrane perforation and progression of cholesteatoma.
