UNS – To realize an international research collaboration, Karlina Denistia, S.S., M.A., Ph.D., and Paramita Widya Hapsari, S.S., M.Hum., lecturers from the D3 English Program at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), conducted an outbound visit from Tuesday, November 5 to Thursday, November 7, 2024. The visit took place at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Sydney, as part of the International Collaborative Research Project Contract No. 194.2/UN27.22/PT.01.03/2024.
The visit was attended by Karlina Denistia and Paramita Widya Hapsari, along with David Wijaya, Ph.D., and Associate Professor Dwi Noverini Djenar, Ph.D., linguists from the University of Sydney. The event also attracted 20 participants, including linguistics and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) students from both the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales.
The outbound visit focused on a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and the dissemination of research findings, involving academics and researchers from the D3 English Program at UNS and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney. The FGD was held on November 5, 2024, at the Brennan MacCallum Building, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Sydney.
“The purpose of the FGD was to discuss the progress of the collaborative research conducted so far and to draft a proposal for the second year of the joint research. The discussion aimed to develop more innovative and effective strategies to support the continuity of research in the fields of linguistics and English language education,” stated Karlina.
The dissemination session took place on November 6, 2024, with the theme “Using Corpora in Linguistics and English as a Second Language Research,” held at Room A02.01.105, Social Sciences Building, SSB Seminar Room 10, University of Sydney. The session introduced the application of corpora in linguistic research and English language teaching, with a focus on practical implementation to enhance research methods and teaching practices at both institutions. The case studies presented during this session were derived from data collected in the first year of international collaborative research.
According to sv.uns.ac.id, the outbound visit aimed to strengthen global academic partnerships in the fields of linguistics and English language teaching as a second language. The D3 English Program at UNS hopes that this initiative will enhance sustainable research networks and contribute to the development of linguistics and English education at the international level.
This effort to build stronger global partnerships aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Number 17: Partnership for the Goals. HUMAS UNS
