In alignment with Qatar University's (QU) strategic goals to distinguish its graduates and enhance their research and scientific skills, the Qatar University Young Scientists Centre (QUYSC) proudly announced Sarah Abu Al-Ela's selection to present her research at the Saudi International Pharmaceutical Sciences Conference (SIPHA) 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This opportunity comes after Sarah secured first place in the second cycle of the National Science and Research Promotion Program (NSPP), a prestigious initiative supported by QUYSC in collaboration with the Office of Research Support (Grants and Contracts).

Established in December 2020, NSPP serves as a cornerstone program that introduces high school and undergraduate students to research and innovation with the goal of enhancing their creative and leadership skills. The NSPP plays a vital role in supporting and empowering youth in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), enriching young people's scientific research skills, and preparing them to become a highly skilled workforce in the future to contribute to Qatar's scientific renaissance.

Dr. Zaid Hussein Hasan Alma'ayah, Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at QU's College of Pharmacy, supervised Sarah Abu Al-Ela as she presented a research poster at the SIPHA Conference, titled “A Novel Treatment for Sepsis-Induced Cardiac Inflammation.” Her research addresses the critical medical condition of sepsis-induced cardiac inflammation, seeking to develop new treatments for this global health challenge. Sarah's participation in this international conference emphasizes the exceptional quality of research conducted by QU students and provides her with a platform to share her findings and learn about the latest advancements in medical solutions.

Reflecting on her experience, Sarah said, “My participation in this event was an enriching experience where I had the opportunity to present our research project and discuss the scientific procedures and results we have reached, as well as to learn about scientific developments and valuable information shared by experts in the field of pharmacy. This would not have been possible without the continuous support of the NSPP team, which qualified me to participate in this conference.”

Prof. Noora Jabor Al-Thani, Director of QUYSC, emphasized the center's continuous commitment to cultivating in students the essential qualities of creativity, research, lifelong learning, and awareness of national and international issues using various modern methodologies. She highlighted the critical role that continuous learning and diverse experiences, encompassing research, seminars, and conferences, play in nurturing the skills that empower students to realize their aspirations and elevate their ideas to a level of sophistication that exerts a tangible impact on society and the world in general.
