QU and RKH Qitarat Sign MoU to Boost Engineering and Transport Collaboration

Qatar University (QU) and RKH Qitarat, services provider for Qatar Rail responsible for operating and maintaining the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram signed a MoU to establish a cooperative framework aimed at advancing various engineering and transportation projects. Prof. Ibrahim Al-Kaabi, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Mr. Kevin Thomas, Managing Director of RKH Qitarat, signed the MoU in the presence of several senior officials from both organizations.

The primary objectives of the MoU include enhancing training and development, and research collaboration between the two parties. This partnership underscores QU's and RKH Qitarat’s commitment to supporting national development initiatives through strategic collaborations with key industry partners.

The MoU stipulates that workshops and courses in key engineering areas will be organized by RKH Qitarat and QU. It also includes summer training, technical support, and field visits for QU students. The MoU highlights the shared utilization of specialized and virtual labs for research and training, with QU and RKH Qitarat forming joint research teams. RKH Qitarat will also enhance QU's educational curriculum to align with urban development goals through project integration.

Prof. Ibrahim Al-Kaabi, Vice President for Academic Affairs at QU, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “This collaboration aims to broaden the communication pathways between the university and RKH Qitarat, fostering a shift towards a knowledge-driven economy. It enhances community partnerships and facilitates the transfer of knowledge and technology, benefiting both the university and the community. Additionally, it seeks to strengthen ties with various sectors across the state, promoting greater cooperation and mutual engagement to support education and benefit students.”

Mr. Kevin Thomas, Managing Director of RKH Qitarat, highlighted the importance of the agreement, saying, “Our partnership with Qatar University is a significant step forward in supporting Qatar’s national development goals. By combining RKH Qitarat’s industry expertise with QU’s exceptional faculty and resources, we can foster a collaborative environment that tackles key engineering and transportation challenges.  We are particularly excited about the opportunity to provide QU students with valuable real-world experience through internships, technical support, and field visits.  This will not only benefit our upcoming projects but also help build the future talent of Qatar’s Engineering and Transport sector.”

Through this strategic partnership, QU and RKH Qitarat aim to achieve mutual growth and contribute significantly to Qatar’s Vision 2030 by fostering innovation, knowledge transfer, and capacity building in the engineering and transportation industries.
