This summer, Qatar University’s (QU) Young Scientists Center (YSC) organized a Summer Research Internship Program (SRIP) that included 650 students engaging in 82 interdisciplinary internship projects spanning various fields such as artificial intelligence, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, nanotechnology, smart materials, IoT-based technologies, healthcare innovations, and more.

SRIP 2024 ended this month after three weeks of intensive internship activities. The scholarly impacts of these endeavors will manifest through scientific posters, research papers, and reports. These contributions will undergo rigorous review, be showcased, and be recognized as distinguished achievements of SRIP 2024 in September during an adjourning event.

This year, internship projects are driven by the leading scientists and researchers from 13 research centers and eight QU colleges at fully-fledged laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment and machinery. The research centers include the Center For Sustainable Development (CSD), Center For Advanced Materials (CAM), Laboratory Animal Research Center (LARC), Central Laboratories Unit (CLU), Environmental Science Center (ESC), Biomedical Research Center (BRC), Gas Processing Center (GPC), Kindi Center for Computing Research (KINDI), Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI), Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center (QTTSC), Agricultural Research Station (ARS), Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC) and the Young Scientists Center (YSC). The participating colleges are the College of Medicine (CMED), College of Dental Medicine (CDM), College of Engineering (CENG), College of Arts and Science (CAS), College of Business and Economics (CBE), College of Pharmacy (CPH), College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, and College of Education (CED). Additionally, four external projects are being offered by esteemed organizations in Qatar.

The YSC has placed a huge effort into arranging 82 projects to provide equitable opportunities to the 650 students who have registered in the program this year. Prof. Noora Al-Thani, Director of the YSC says of the Summer Research Internship 2024's impact, “The internship projects, spanning multiple disciplines, provide modern and meaningful input towards the nation's sustainable growth and encourage students to explore opportunities that showcase their knowledge, competencies, and mindsets in the forthcoming job market and higher education institutions.”

The center is a beacon for student engagement in scientific pursuits, fostering innovation and research skills across various age groups and backgrounds. Since 2022, the YSC has been pivotal in organizing SRIP for undergraduates and graduates through partnerships with numerous research entities and faculties at QU.
