The journal was notified in February 2024 that an institutional investigation jointly conducted by Rush University and the Jesse Brown Veterans Affairs Medical Centre (JBVAMC) made findings of research misconduct against author Hee-Jeong Im Sampen. The investigation determined that figure 1A, B, C and E in this paper contain fabricated and/or falsified data that constitutes research misconduct. This determination and a request to retract this paper was made public by the Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) in November 2023 in federal notice 88 FR 75641.
