QU Organizes a Training Program for Undergraduate Students on Anesthesia and Analgesia for Laboratory Rodents

A Side of the Training Program for Undergraduate Students on Anesthesia

The Laboratory Animal Research Center (LARC) at Qatar University (QU) organized a specialized training program for undergraduate students in scientific and medical disciplines under the title “Anesthesia and Analgesia for Laboratory Rodents—Module I: Basic Module." The program was held at the center's headquarters in the research complex at QU, providing students with the opportunity to learn about the scientific and practical basics of anesthesia and pain relief used in experiments on laboratory rodents for scientific research purposes.

The program included intensive theoretical and practical training, which covered basic instructions for anesthesia, common methods for anesthetizing rodents, how to use a rodent anesthesia device, injection methods, monitoring rodents during anesthesia, and the recovery phase after anesthesia.

This training program is a valuable opportunity for QU undergraduate students in the health sector, biological and environmental sciences, and chemistry programs to gain specialized knowledge about the basics of anesthetics and analgesics used for laboratory rodents. The program also focuses on the principles of proper selection of anesthesia materials and animal humane care during and after surgical procedures.

It is worth noting that LARC is a member of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) and the International Council for Laboratory Animal Science (ICLAS). It is an unconventional animal facility with an SPF rodent vivarium, a small animal imaging core, diagnostics, cell culture, and research labs.
