QU Press Booth at Doha International Book Fair 2024

Qatar University (QU) Press participated in the 33rd edition of the Doha International Book Fair, themed “Knowledge Builds Civilizations," which kicked off at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) on 9-18 May, 2024. The event provided a platform for QU Press to illuminate the literary landscape with its diverse publications spanning various academic, cultural, and scientific domains.

QU Press also arranged a series of seminars in collaboration with the Qatar Forum, enriching the cultural salon with enlightening discussions and insights, and held a number of launch and signing sessions for its latest publications.

Building upon the success of its previous endeavors in the 32nd Edition of Doha International Book Fair, QU Press unveiled over 20 new titles, further enriching its extensive library that now boasts over 75 publications. QU Press not only introduced its publications but also fostered engaging interactions through launch sessions and panel discussions. These initiatives aimed to foster a deeper understanding of the diverse content offered by QU Press.

Prof. Fatma Mohammad Al-Sowaidi, Director of QU Press, said: “We are extremely pleased with the participation of QU Press in this exhibition, as it is one of the most important and one of the oldest International Book Fairs in the region. I seize the opportunity to thank the Ministry of Culture and the Qatar Publishers and Distributors Forum for this wonderful organization and the facilitations they provide to the participants, contributing to the success of this magnificent cultural event.”

Furthermore, Prof. Al-Sowaidi underscored the pivotal role of the university's administration in bolstering QU Press's endeavors. She commended the dedicated team behind the scenes, describing them as "invisible soldiers" who tirelessly uphold the standards of excellence in publishing and knowledge dissemination.

Amidst its participation in the Doha Exhibition, QU Press unveiled five groundbreaking titles that exemplify innovation and intellectual fields. Noteworthy among them is "HYDROGEOLOGICAL ATLAS OF QATAR: Geology, Water Resources, and Paleoclimate," authored by Dr. Husam Musa Baalousha, which serves as Qatar's premier groundwater atlas. “Museum Treasures for All: The Role of Museum Curators in Public Communication” by Ahmed Sheikh El-Arab, which reviews the efforts of museum curators in developing different approaches to interpreting the cultural heritage,.

“Introduction to Law and the Social Sciences” by Moroccan academic Dr.Hassane Hjij highlights the important approaches derived from social theory and their applications in the interpretation of law and the social sciences.

“Museums between Classification Criteria and Application Methodology” by Dr. Mohammed Jamal Rashed, a professor of museology. The book provides a reading of the types of museums and the criteria for categorizing them according to a standard methodology.

“History Taking in Medicine and Understanding Organs Talk,” by Dr. Adel Ali Attia, is a guidebook that addresses one of the issues that medical professionals and students face when they begin their clinical training, focusing on the difficulty of talking to the patient to find out their medical history.

The QU Press will hold a number of book launches during the exhibition, whether by hosting the authors at its pavilion or through video conferencing, and will also participate in a panel discussion on the books “The Art of Cooperation: Lessons from Families of Children with Disabilities,” translated into Arabic by Dr. Taha Adawi, and ”Human Duties or Human Rights? Which comes first?” by Dr. Muslim Al-Wahaibi.
