Under the patronage of His Highness The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Qatar University (QU) celebrates the graduation ceremony of its 47th batch, Class of 2024, which took place in the QU Sports and Events Complex this morning.

The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as His Excellency Mr. Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Speaker of the Shura Council, along with Their Excellencies the ministers, members of the QU’s Board of Regents, university vice presidents, and students' families.

During the ceremony, His Highness the Amir honored 133 outstanding students from various academic disciplines, while QU President Dr. Omar Al-Ansari, presented certificates to the 761 graduating students.

The ceremony included a film presentation depicting students' experiences across diverse academic fields, spotlighting the university's accomplishments and its dedication to fostering opportunities for its students, equipping them with the necessary skills for their professional journey while also serving the community and the country.

On this occasion, Dr. Omar Al-Ansari, QU President, delivered a speech, while Mohammed Thamer Al Thani, a Class of 2024 graduate, delivered a speech on behalf of his graduating class.

In his speech on this occasion, President of QU Dr. Omar Al-Ansari said, “With feelings of pride and honor, we celebrate today the 47th batch of graduates from Qatar University, and the joining of a new cohort comprising over 3500 graduates. Within its core role and commitment to providing high-quality education and impactful research linked to national development, Qatar University has contributed to the Qatari job market with over 65,000 young human talents who have actively contributed and continue to contribute effectively to the journey of our ambitious developmental progress.”

Addressing His Highness, The Amir of the State of Qatar, Dr. Omar Al-Ansari says, “The prominent position that Qatar has attained regionally and internationally under your wise leadership and within the framework of the principles laid down by the founding fathers places a great responsibility on the university, a responsibility it acknowledges and takes pride in. The university senses its role as a strong supporter of sustainable development in Qatar, through preparing young people capable of actively participating with determination and enthusiasm in building their societies and engaging with the issues of their nation driven by the values of brotherhood, justice, and equity.”

He adds, “Investment in human capital is the cornerstone of achieving aspirations and sustaining development. No nation has excelled in progress and leadership without valuing human care as a supreme value and a governing standard. Through a clear vision, mission, and an educational model based on a system of high values, and a scientific framework that adheres to the highest academic standards, this has resulted in graduating individuals who possess a balanced and comprehensive personality, as well as knowledge, skills, and competencies, with a deep commitment to excellence, integrity, and social responsibility. This has made graduates of Qatar University active and influential in their surroundings, capable of positively engaging with the challenges of the modern world, and raising the name of their country in society and globally.”

He continues, “As we stand on the threshold of implementing the Qatar University Strategy 2023-2027, which was developed to be harmonious and integrated with the Third Qatar National Development Strategy, its strategic goals include learning and human development, research and response to national challenges, societal and economic development, and institutional and cultural enhancement. We are pleased to mention that the university has achieved many accomplishments on various fronts, and has obtained numerous academic chairs through partnerships and agreements with local, regional, and international institutions.”

“As part of its ongoing efforts to support the strategic and economic directions of the state and to provide local competencies, Qatar University launched several academic programs during the academic year to meet the needs of the job market in the country. Among these, we highlight the College of Sport Sciences, which we hope will become a scientific and research reference in the field of sports and its sciences, and a primary supporter of the state's efforts in this field. With the participation of 12 colleges and over 90 academic programs, and with numerous academic accreditations, programmatic and institutional, and quality certifications achieved by the university, along with the presence of top academic and research talents, and the unlimited support from the Board of Regents of Qatar University, the university has solidified its position among the best universities in the region and the world according to the latest institutional rankings.”

Dr. Omar Al-Ansari, then addressed his speech to the graduates of the Class of 2024, saying, “I extend to you my sincerest congratulations on your graduation. Today, you reap the fruits of your efforts and dedication to hard work and diligence throughout your years of study. As you prepare to enter a new world full of challenges and opportunities, remember that graduation is not the end of the road, but the beginning of a new journey of personal and professional growth. I urge you to continue your hard work, dedication, and lifelong learning, acquiring skills in a changing world and keeping pace with rapid developments in various fields. I encourage you to persevere in achieving your personal and professional goals, embracing creative ideas boldly, so that your post-graduation journey is filled with achievements and successes.”

“We will always be proud of you, and the doors of the university will always be open to you, with its resources available to you at all times. On this joyful occasion, I also extend my heartfelt congratulations to the esteemed parents on the graduation of their children from Qatar University. We share with you today the joy and pride in this great accomplishment and thank you for the support and encouragement you have provided to your children, especially during their university studies.”

“I also want to express my gratitude to my colleagues from the faculty, staff, and all employees of the university for all that you have done for our students during their educational journey and your contribution to their success. Thank you for supporting the university's mission in preparing an outstanding, creative, innovative, and leadership-ready generation capable of effectively contributing to building a sustainable future.”

As a representative on behalf of the 47th graduating class, Mohammed Thamer Mohammed Jabor Al-Thani said, “Today, I stand before you, representing myself and on behalf of my fellow graduates, to welcome you all to our graduation ceremony. This moment comes after years of joy and hard work, leading us to this moment that witnesses a new cohort of our esteemed university's graduates, carrying our aspirations and hopes towards a new chapter in our lives. I cannot express enough gratitude to our esteemed professors who taught us both worldly and religious knowledge, instilled in us a sense of responsibility, and made us aware of the magnitude of the trust placed upon us. Gratitude is also due to those who have had a hand in our success, after Allah Almighty, to those present with us today and those present in our hearts; to the gray hairs on our fathers' heads, and the tears of concern in our mothers' eyes, to their prayers that accompanied us as we walked under their guidance until we see them today adorned with feelings of pride and joy.”

Dr. Omar Othman Al-Khatib, QU Professor from the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies and host of the ceremony said, “Qatar University, this towering academic institution, serves as a vital resource that equips our nation with elite individuals who contribute to its progress and elevation. The university has been and continues to be a beacon of knowledge, a cradle of innovation, and a source of solid scientific research.”
