Human eukaryotic initiation factor 4G directly binds the 40S ribosomal subunit to promote efficient translation

Nancy Villa is an assistant project scientist in the lab of Dr. Christopher S. Fraser at the University of California, Davis. She is interested in the mechanism and regulation of mRNA recruitment to the ribosome, which she studies using purified components and cell-free extracts in quantitative and kinetic assays. She aims to understand how translation initiation factor availability and posttranslational modifications regulate mRNA translation and how this knowledge may be applied to therapeutics.
