A novel simple laser guidance puncture system for intracerebral hematoma

Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is characterized by a high incidence, mortality rate, and disability rate among cerebrovascular diseases, with surgical intervention being one of the key treatment modalities for this condition [1], [2], [3]. Traditional surgical approaches are a subject of debate, as they do not provide a clear advantage in enhancing patient outcomes or reducing mortality rates [4], [5]. Recent research, however, suggests that minimally invasive surgical treatments may offer greater benefits [6], [7], [8], [9]. Accurate localization and real-time guidance technologies for cerebral hematomas are critical for minimally invasive procedures such as minimally invasive hematoma puncture and drainage, as well as neuroendoscopic-assisted hematoma removal [10], [11]. Currently, existing devices for guiding hematoma punctures, such as neuro-navigation systems and stereotactic instruments, while highly accurate, are limited by their high cost and time-consuming operation [12], [13]. This makes them challenging to implement in some developing countries. Therefore, a low-cost and efficient hematoma puncture localization and guidance technology is beneficial and necessary for minimally invasive ICH treatment during urgent surgical situations.

In our previous study [14], we developed a cross-laser-based cerebral hematoma localization and guidance puncture device primarily intended for hematoma localization and puncture. We initially confirmed its accuracy to be superior to freehand puncture. However, this device was a temporary assembly, making it impractical for clinical use and widespread application. Therefore, in this study, we have further improved and integrated it, verified its accuracy through in vitro simulation experiments. Additionally, we have compared it with a neuro-navigation system, exploring its initial application effectiveness, providing dependable technical support for surgeons in the precise preoperative localization of hematomas.
