Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Otolaryngology Applicants and Residents: Recruiting a Diverse Workforce

In 2016 to 2017, there were 444 United States allopathic graduate (US MD) applicants to otolaryngology residency programs of which 253 (57.0%) were White, 101 (22.8%) were Asian, 16 (3.6%) were Hispanic, 25 (5.6%) were Black, 1 (0.2%) were American Indian, 0 (0.0%) were Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (NHPI), and 27 (6.1%) were multiple race/ethnicity. In 2021 to 2022, there were 525 US MD applicants of which 293 (55.8%) were White, 126 (24.0%) were Asian, 19 (3.6%) were Hispanic, 31 (5.9%)
