Leber's idiopathic stellate neuroretinitis – NOT cat scratch disease: Case report

Leber's neuroretinitis was first described in 1916 by Theodore Leber. It is a rare syndrome characterized by unilateral vision loss, a pattern of exudative deposits in the macula, and optic disc swelling [1]. Dreyer et al. have suggested that other groups of agents, including infectious agents such as cat scratch disease, may be responsible for a similar clinical picture to that described by Leber. They reserve the term Leber's retinopathy for a distinct group of patients with macular starbursts and papilledema without any other ocular or systemic disease other than viral disease [2].
