Recently developed laboratory models provide novel insight into complex sarcoidosis disease mechanisms.

Multiple models combined with appropriate analytical tools are considered to address specific research aims.

The limitations of existing laboratory models are considered while addressing scientific questions relating to sarcoidosis.

This review considers future research directions and new models required.

This manuscript will review the implications and applications of sarcoidosis models towards advancing our understanding of sarcoidosis disease mechanisms, identification of biomarkers, and preclinical testing of novel therapies. Emerging disease models and innovative research tools will also be considered.
