Editorial overview: New and revitalized old targets in metabolic disease

Ivana Novak is professor at the Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen, and coordinator of the Center for Advanced Bioimaging. After receiving her PhD degree in physiology from the University of Sydney in 1985, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Max-Planck-Institute für Biophysik, Frankfurt, and the Medical Faculty, Albrecht-Ludwigs University, Freiburg, and received several international stipends including the Alexander von Humboldt fellowship. After habilitation in 1994, she became Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen, and since 2005, has held a position as Professor. Her research interests are in acid-base and ion transport as well as purinergic signaling in pancreatic physiology, pancreatic cancer, diabetes, and obesity.
