Mark Wick contributions to pathology of the mediastinum

Whereas the eclectic contributions of Dr Mark Wick cover the entirely field of pathology and are dizzying in quantity and range, some of his earlier work showed a more intense focus in lesion of the mediastinum, some in collaboration with the late Bernd Sheithauer, who would later be known as one of the notable neuropathologists of the 20th and 21st century. These early works brought some initial clarity to the somewhat misunderstood nature of neuroendocrine neoplasms of the thymus. The controversial issues surrounding classification of thymomas were also extensively addressed in several articles, many in collaboration with Alberto Marchevsky. Thymic carcinomas were also within the scope of his endeavors. Additional incursions into the pathology of the mediastinum included investigations of thymic cysts, germ cell tumors and inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor. Two book that address the pathology of mediastinal organs, also bear his name1,2.
