IRAQI-DAAD Alumni had a Meeting in Erbil

DAAD Alumni in ErbilPromoting the bilateral academic relations between Iraqi and German universities coming as the foremost priority to Koya University organs. Recognizing the importance of creating such a bridge, the Director of Career Services (DCS) at Koya University (Dr.-Ing. Rastee D. Ali) has proposed the first of its kind meeting for the Iraqis who have been studying in Germany and supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Erbil.

 

Financially supported by DAAD (Euro 9250) and organized by DCS at Koya University, the Iraqi DAAD Alumni conducted the Iraqi Alumni meeting under "Combatting Desertification and Drought via Promoting Entrepreneurship Startups" on Sunday, 27. March 2022 in Erbil. In addition to presenting six presentations on desertification challenges that face the Iraqi environment, the participants engaged in addressing topics that ultimately lead to fostering academic partnerships and cooperation between the Iraqi universities and German universities in general and DAAD in particular. 

On behalf of Koya University staff and students, we would like to conduct our sincerest gratitude to Ms. Leonie Blecher for her outstanding communications and programme support, Frau Stefanie Büchl for her cooperation and approval, Ms. Jwan Khalis for her continuous and never-ending support, Mr. Benjamin Schmäling for honoring our event with his visit and presentation, and, Mr. Sven Mossler and Mr. Klemens Semtner (from the German Consulate in Erbil) for their encouragement and enthusiasm about the very idea of this meeting.

Koya University (KOU) is located in the city of Koya (Koy Sanjaq) which is 1.0 hr drive to the East of the Kurdistan Region capital Erbil (Arbil, Hewlér) in Kurdistan Region of F.R. Iraq. Also, there are two research centers; Genome Center and Malai Gawra Center. Moreover, at KOU there is an English Language Center (BELC) at KOU has been opened with the sponsorship of IREX and American embassy in Baghdad as well as with the support of Spring International Language Center of The University of ArkansasKOU has two Scientific Journals; ARO-The Scientific Journal of Koya University, which is indexed by Clarivate Analytics (ESCI), and Koya University Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (KUJHSS). KOU is a proactive member of Erasmus/ Marhaba Project and Erasmus+. KOU signed many Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with many International Universities, e.g., The University of Arkansas (June 2015). The Lulea University in Sweden (April 2014), The University of Nottingham in the UKThe University of Buckingham in the UK (Oct 2008), Belkin University in Turkey (Sep 2009) The University of Greenwich in the UKCihan University-Erbil (2021) and Tishk International University (2021). Koya University is a memebr of The Association of Arab Universities and the International Association of Universities.
