Issue Cover (January 2022)

Front cover:

Cover image: Comparison of craniofacial bones from two white-blooded icefishes (like the blackfin icefish Chaenocephalus aceratus shown at the top) and from two related red-blooded notothens (like the humped notothen Gobionotothen gibberifrons shown at the bottom) refuted a previous suggestion about the specifics of ‘bone loss’ in icefishes, revealing that bone microstructure and bone mineral density were not systemically different between the two groups. See A.M. Ashique et al., ‘Bone microstructure and bone mineral density are not systemically different in Antarctic icefishes (Channichthyidae) compared to related Antarctic notothenioids’, this issue.
