Dorian Carpentier et al. Local triamcinolone injection and selective add-on oral steroids to prevent esophageal post-endoscopic submucosal dissection stricture: a retrospective analysis in a Western center

A stricture prevention protocol following esophageal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) involved local triamcinolone injection for circumferential mucosal defects of 50%–89% with additional oral corticosteroids for defects ≥90%. It was followed prospectively in 111 patients (130 esophageal ESDs). In this retrospective analysis, the cumulative stricture rate assessed by endoscopy within 6 months after ESD was 10.4%. A mucosal defect of length ≥60 mm was associated with a 15-fold increased risk of stricture.
