Prof. Hartono Appointed as New Rector of UNS for the 2024-2029 Period

UNS – The Board of Trustees (MWA) of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has appointed Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si. as the new Rector for the 2024-2029 period. The appointment was made following the MWA UNS Plenary Meeting for Rector Election, attended by 16 MWA members on Thursday (18/7/2024) at the UNS Tower Ki Hadjar Dewantara Building. Prof. Dr. Ir. Sri Suning Kusumawardani, S.T., M.T., Director of Learning and Student Affairs at the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology, attended and conducted the election on behalf of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Mendikbudristek).

During the press conference, Chairman of MWA UNS, Prof. Muliaman Darmansyah Hadad, Ph.D., stated that prior to the election, MWA invited all rector candidates to present their vision, mission, and work programs in front of the MWA. Each candidate was given 15 minutes to present, followed by a 20-minute question-and-answer session with the MWA to delve deeper into their vision, mission, and work plans.

“Based on the presentations and in-depth discussions, the MWA unanimously decided to appoint Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si. as the new Rector of UNS for the 2024-2029 period,” Prof. Muliaman explained.

According to Article 44, Paragraphs (1), (2), and (3) of MWA Regulation Number 4 of 2024 on the Rules for the Election of the Rector for the 2024-2029 Period, the elected rector must submit a letter of resignation from their current position to the MWA through the Rector Election Committee (PPR) by August 1, 2024. Failure to submit this letter will be considered a withdrawal from the position.

“With Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si. appointed as the elected rector, the remaining agenda includes the Inauguration of the Elected Rector on August 8, 2024, which will be broadcast live on the UNS YouTube channel. All members of the UNS community are encouraged to watch the event,” Prof. Muliaman added.

The MWA congratulated Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si., on his appointment as the new Rector of UNS for the 2024-2029 period. They expressed their hope that, following his inauguration, he would fulfill his duties with integrity and promptly begin implementing his vision and mission to enhance UNS.

“The MWA extends its gratitude and appreciation to all PPR members who have worked diligently from the beginning until now. We also thank the entire UNS community and the general public for their contributions in monitoring and overseeing the lengthy rector election process,” Prof. Muliaman concluded.
