Digital complete denture fabrication has advanced with the integration of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM), intraoral scanning, and 3-dimensional printing. A method of fabricating a stackable CAD-CAM custom record tray for complete dentures is introduced. The method combines a custom tray, record base, and occlusion rim in a single piece.

Section snippetsTECHNIQUE

1. Make a preliminary scan of the maxillary and mandibular edentulous arches with an intraoral scanner (Medit i700; Medit) (Fig. 1). Save the scanned data in standard tessellation language (STL) format.

2. To design and fabricate stackable CAD-CAM custom record trays, import the STL data of the maxillary and mandibular jaws separately into a CAD software program (InLAB SW 20.0; Dentsply Sirona) (Fig. 2). Design the custom tray using a CAD software program (InLab Splint; Dentsply Sirona). Define

DISCUSSION

The significant difference compared with conventional methods is the combination of a custom tray, record base, and occlusion rim that is custom designed and 3D printed. This combination consolidates 3 components into 1 piece, reducing the workload for the dental laboratory technician and clinician. Additionally, a single commercially available dental design software program creates a stackable structure, streamlining the workflow and learning curve for operators without the need to use

SUMMARY

A method of fabricating a stackable CAD-CAM custom record tray for complete dentures has been described. This technique simplifies the procedure of complete denture fabrication and increases the performance of the custom record tray. Research into the fit of the stackable structure and improvement in the custom occlusion rim is required for the further development of digitally fabricated dentures.
