Master’s Program in Public Administration (MAP) FISIP UNS Holds Sharing Session “Becoming a Wise Bureaucrat” with Acting Regent of Karanganyar

UNS— The Master’s Program in Public Administration (MAP) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta organized a sharing session event titled “Alumni Sharing” featuring a public official, the Acting Regent of Karanganyar, Timotius Suryadi, S.Sos, M.Ss., M.Si. He is an alumnus of the Bachelor’s Program in Public Administration and the MAP Program at FISIP UNS. The theme of the sharing session was “Becoming a Wise Bureaucrat” and was held in the Seminar Room of the M. Sartono building, 2nd floor of FISIP UNS, on Monday (25/3/2024).

The event was opened by the Dean of FISIP UNS, Prof. Dr. Ismi Dwi Astuti N., M.Si. On this occasion, Prof. Ismi conveyed that this activity serves as a learning opportunity for students about the practical application of public administration as both a science and an art, specifically how to moderate the implementation of public policies through technocratic and political approaches. Additionally, the event serves as a form of alumni sharing. Students are expected to gain insights from today’s activities.

The event was attended by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Research, and Student Affairs of FISIP UNS, Dra. Prahastiwi Utari, M.Si., Ph.D.; the Vice Dean for Human Resources, Finance, and Logistics of FISIP UNS, Dr. Ahmad Zuber, S.Sos., D.E.A.; the Vice Dean for Planning, Business Cooperation, and Information of FISIP UNS, Dr. Didik Gunawan Suharto, S.Sos., M.Si., who also acted as the respondent; the Head of the MAP Program at FISIP UNS, Dr. Rutiana Dwi Wahyunengseh, S.Sos., M.Si., who also served as the moderator; lecturers from the MAP Program at FISIP UNS; and students from the Master’s Program in Public Administration and the Bachelor’s Program in Regional Autonomy Policy Issues and Decision Making classes. The event was also attended virtually by MAP alumni as a platform to reminisce about campus life and strengthen ties among alumni.

Timotius Suryadi, S.Sos., M.Si. presented on “Bureaucrats with Wisdom” and the skills required for a bureaucrat to moderate technocratic, political, and participatory approaches in implementing public policies. 

Eleven students posed comments and questions during the Q&A session. From the comments and discussions that took place, it appears that the objective of this activity successfully sparked students’ understanding of how public policy management works in practice and how to navigate policy environment challenges to implement policies harmoniously.

Dr. Didik Gunawan Suharto, S.Sos., M.Si. provided his response regarding FISIP’s potential to collaborate with the Karanganyar Regency government through the expertise of the 11 Research Groups within FISIP. “The presentation from the Vice Dean for Planning, Business Cooperation, and Information serves as a gateway to understanding that FISIP is ready to network with alumni for the sustainable implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.” HUMAS UNS
