Gastrointestinal (GI) defects, encompassing complications like perforations, anastomotic leaks, and fistulas, present significant challenges in clinical practice due to their association with increased morbidity and mortality. This review aims to provide an overview of GI defects' prevalence and clinical impact while shedding light on the evolving role of interventional endoscopy and innovative endoscopic techniques for managing these luminal defects.
