Karen Amaya Aguirre, M.Sc. serves in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology & Tropical Medicine at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Her research currently focuses on novel genes in T. brucei that promote drug resistance, perturb redox metabolism, and cause ROS stress in the mitochondrion. She holds a B.Sc. in Chemistry and an M.Sc. in Pharmacology from Georgetown University.
