Effect of electroacupuncture on chest circumference, breast volume and Breast-Q: A randomized clinical trial

With the social progress, women pay more and more attention to the breast beauty and have an increasing demand for improving breast appearance. Women is unsatisfactory for flat chest/small breasts and breast appearance, which seriously affects female mental health, thus they may have anxiety, depression and human communication disorders or encounter the obstacles of job hunting and mate selection. It is reported that about 25% of young women in China have the trouble of small breasts [1].

At present, the main method of female breast augmentation is either surgical approach or non-surgical one. The surgical methods include artificial prosthesis implantation, autologous fat transplantation and polyacrylamide hydrogel injection. The non-surgical approaches refer to internal or external administration of estrogen, massage, physical exercise, etc. Although the surgical method is very effective, it is prone to cause complications, e.g. prosthesis displacement, infection, fat liquefaction and breast tissue necrosis. Whereas, the non-surgical one is limited in effect and cannot obtain a satisfactory result generally [2]. Therefore, an effective and safe method for breast augmentation has always been the focus of women.

Being one of the special therapies of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), acupuncture is characterized as convenient and safe operation, low cost and less side effect. Electroacupuncture (EA) has a good clinical effect on breast diseases on the base of minimizing side effects [3]. It is significant for promoting female breast health and alleviating the mental burden induced by female breast problems. In this trial, EA was adopted to improve breast appearance and had achieved a satisfactory clinical effect. The report is as follows.
