Young women with AMI have worse outcomes than men up to 1 year after discharge

“From previous studies, we knew that young women had a higher risk of death and all-cause hospitalizations than similarly aged men, but what we did not know was the exact cause or timing of these hospitalizations,” explains Mitsuaki Sawano, first author of the study. To date, the multicentre VIRGO study is the only prospective cohort of young patients with AMI in the USA and is thus uniquely placed to investigate sex-specific differences in all-cause and cause-specific hospitalizations after AMI.
