Two UNS Students Win Medals in World Para Athletic Grand Prix 2023

UNS — Two students from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta won two medals in the World Para Athletic Grand Prix event in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. They were Karisma Evi Tiarani who won the gold medal in the women’s 100m race (T42) and Nanda Mei Sholihah who won the silver medal in the women’s 100m race (T47). Both of them represented Indonesia under the auspices of the Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPC).

The World Para Athletic Grand Prix 2023 took place from 26 February to 2 March 2023 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This event was attended by 700 athletes from 66 countries. Apart from Karisma Evi and Nanda Mei, Figo Saputra from the Sports Coaching Education Study Program, Faculty of Sports (FKOR) UNS also participated in the event.

Karisma Evi is a student of the Communication Studies Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), while Nanda Mei is a student of the Sports Coaching Education Study Program FKOR UNS.

Interviewed by uns.ac.id, Karisma Evi or who is familiarly called Evi admitted that she was very happy to win a gold medal in this world para athletic championship.

“My impression is happy, especially being able to contribute points for Indonesia so they can take part in the Paris Paralympic Games2024,” the athlete who recorded a time of 14.86 seconds in the 2023 World Para Athletic Grand Prix said.

This fourth semester student said that the preparation she did was only practice in accordance with the program given by the coach. Through this achievement, she hopes to be able to participate and give the best for Indonesia in other future championships, including at the Paralympic. Humas UNS
