UNS Holds Open Session of Academic Senate Commemorating 47th Dies Natalis UNS

UNS — The Open Session of Academic Senate was held for commemorating the 47th Dies Natalis of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta 2023, Saturday (11/3/2023). The session took place offline at the Auditorium G.P.H. Haryo Mataram UNS. The 47th Dies Natalis UNS has the theme “Acceleration of Creative and Innovative Resources in Facing the Global Crisis through Togetherness towards Golden Indonesia”.

The session was opened by the Head of the UNS Academic Senate (SA), Prof. Dr. Adi Sulistiyono, S.H., M.H. The Rector of Xihua University, civil officials, military officials, police officials, religious leaders, and community leaders from the Surakarta residency attended this session.

There were also  the Rector of UNS, Leaders and Members of the Board of Trustees (MWA), Leaders and Members of the Professors Council, Faculty Leaders, Unit Leaders, Lecturers, Education Staff, Students, UNS Alumni, Dharma Wanita, Retiree, and other invited guests.

The Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum. in his speech, thanked God for being able to lead UNS for 5 years in a good health. Prof. Jamal acknowledged UNS’ tenacity and toughness during the Covid-19 pandemic. He was also not forgetting the important moment of the stipulation of Government Regulation No. 56 year 2020 concerning Legal Entity State Universities for UNS, which was supporting its goal of becoming a world-class university.

“There are many more challenges, thanks to God’s grace and help, UNS is still strong and intact,” Prof. Jamal said.

In order to participate in facing the challenges and current crisis conditions, Prof. Jamal again reminded the meaning of the theme raised by UNS in its 47th Dies Natalis. He invited all UNS academics and the Indonesian people to always be creative and innovative.

“Through this theme, we evoke and invite all UNS academics and all pillars of the Indonesian nation, to unite and move creatively and innovatively together to find solutions for the victory of the nation and state of Indonesia,” he said.

Prof. Jamal also conveyed the achievements of UNS in various fields over the past year. Among them, currently UNS is included in the Top 10 of best state universities in Indonesia, and received an award from the Ministry of Education and Culture as the 1st rank PTN achieving IKU 7 in the PTNBH league.

The Vice Head of MWA UNS, Prof. Hasan Fauzi, M.B.A., Ph.D., C.A., CSRA delivering remarks on behalf of the Head of MWA UNS, Marshal TNI (Purn.) Dr. (HC) Hadi Tjahjanto, S.I.P. He reminded that UNS has won a highly challenging trust by the state, government, and the wider community.

One of them is the necessity for UNS to be able to keep upholding dignity in an effort to align itself with the top group of world-class universities. Prof’s Hasan said that innovation and creativity is needed in taking advantage of the increasingly rapid advancement of science and technology.

“We also build strong character as the basic to build superior human resources for advanced Indonesia. Knowledge is power, but character is more,” Prof. Hasan said.

He also encouraged the implementation of learning to be endeavored to yield alumni with character, having superior competence, being able to innovate, and being able to work together with all components of the nation. UNS alumni must be the motor, the driving force of advancement, and the maintainers of the nation’s diversity.

“Thus the vision to realize UNS as a world-class university will gradually be realized through the synergy of academics and stakeholders in achieving these noble ideals,” he added.

In particular, Prof. LIU Shugen as Rector of Xihua University gave his scientific oration. He was very happy to have the opportunity to visit Surakarta City, especially to UNS. He congratulated and gave best wishes to UNS.

Prof. LIU Shugen also acknowledged that currently UNS has become one of the leading universities in Indonesia, and also has a high reputation internationally. This achievement is inseparable from the hard work of the academic community, as well as support from all elements of society.

 “As university partners, allow us to express our highest respect and appreciation to the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum., and all of his staffs,” Prof. Liu Shugen said.

The event continued with the awards presentation to outstanding alumni and new UNS doctors. This award was handed over directly by Prof. Jamal. As many as 13 outstanding alumni and dozens of UNS doctors received the award. The prayer session with all attendees was then led by Prof. Dr. Munawir Yusuf, M.Psi.
