UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta and Xihua University agreed to cooperate in the International Joint Scientific Research program. The signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the two universities took place on Monday (13/3/2023) in Meeting Room 2, Dr. Prakosa building UNS. In the event, the Rector of Xihua University, Prof. LIU Shugen was present, accompanied by his delegates, as well as the Head of the Mandarin Language Center for China. From UNS itself, there was the Recto, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho and Vice Rectors, Deans, as well as other stakeholders.

The event started by singing the national anthem Indonesia Raya together and praying. Then, the main event was the signing of the MoU between UNS and Xihua University, represented by the Rectors of each university. This was followed by the signing of the Cooperation Agreement (PKS) for the Double Degree Program by the Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB) UNS, Prof. Warto and Dean of the Faculty of Literature and Journalism of Xihua University, Prof. Dr. Pan Shu Xian. After that, it was the handover of souvenirs and certificates of the ‘Joint Lecture Program between UNS and Xihua University’ was symbolically handed over.

The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho in his remarks expressed his gratitude to the Rector of Xihua University and all parties for coming from China to Solo. Actually, UNS had collaborated with Xihua University since December 2019. At that time, UNS was present at Xihua University. “In December 2019, we were present at Xihua University. Xihua University President said, one day we will be present at UNS. And it seems that the 47th Dies Natalis is the one chosen and present at once, giving a scientific oration,” Prof. Jamal explained.

Prof. Jamal hopes that the signing of the MoU between UNS and Xihua University could be a good start in developing a world-class university. In the future, there will be more opportunities for researchers to conduct research and joint publications, as well as collaborative international activities between UNS and Xihua University. “I am sure that with this collaboration, the improvement of academic reputation, publications and research at UNS will continue to increase along with the participation of lecturers and students to create a world-class university,” he added.

The same thing was conveyed by the Rector of Xihua University, Prof. Liu Shugen. He was also grateful for the warm welcome from UNS. “What made a deep impression was that the people of Indonesia were very friendly, making us very happy while we were here. UNS and Xihua University certainly have a big responsibility as a university. We hope that good communication and cooperation in various fields between Xihua University and UNS can continue,” Prof. Liu Shugen said. Humas UNS
