This technical report describes a fully digital workflow for the design and fabrication of removable complete dentures in a single day. This technique integrates facial and intraoral scans, uses a computer-aided design software program to modify the orientation of the maxillary occlusal plane in the sagittal and frontal planes and evaluate the esthetics and finally produces complete dentures with a clinically acceptable design, simplifying the clinical workflow.

Section snippetsTechnique

1. Trim the existing dentures to obtain space and functionally reline using a soft reline material (GC tissue conditioner; GC Corp). Scan the maxillary and mandibular dentures (external and intaglio surfaces) using an intraoral scanner (TRIOS 3; 3Shape A/S) and export as standard tessellation language (STL) files (STL-1) (Fig. 1). This step takes approximately 10 minutes.

2. Establish landmarks (forehead, nasion, rhinion, pronasale, and subnasale) on the patient's face to facilitate subsequent

Discussion

The traditional procedure to provide complete maxillary and mandibular dentures requires multiple appointments.5 This technical report describes a fully digital workflow for the fabrication of customized removable complete dentures by using an intraoral scanner, mobile phone, and CAD-CAM and requires approximately 3 hours.

An intraoral scanner was used to scan the existing dentures (STL-1, Fig. 1) and adjacent facial soft tissue with the existing maxillary denture (STL-2, Fig. 2). Intraoral

Summary

A digital workflow is presented that integrates oral and facial scans to design and fabricate complete dentures in a single day. This efficient manufacturing workflow has the potential to transform clinical and laboratory workflows from conventional to digital.
