Editorial overview: Immune regulation and cancers

Professor Carlotta Giorgi is full professor of general pathology in the Dept. of Medical Sciences, University of Ferrara Paolo Pinton's Lab. Her current projects focus on studying the main mechanisms that trigger tumour development, in particular the so-called calcium ion ‘message’, which is strategic for assessing cell mutations and their resistance to therapies. She is also developing a further project on the close correlation between inflammatory processes and cancer development. Dr. Giorgi has acquired through her career an excellent experience in the field of cancer study, about molecular mechanisms underlying the processes of cell death pathways apoptosis and autophagy. Her expertise is already recognised both in national and in the international scientific community, through the articles contributed, the active participation in meetings and the numerous collaborations. She published articles on top-ranked peer-reviewed journals and added to innovative observations. She just obtained a new AIRC IG started in January 2018 to continue her research about the tumour suppressor PML.
