Figure thumbnail fx1 Ultrasonography and MR imaging are commonly used in musculoskeletal radiology to evaluate bones, joints, ligaments, muscle-tendon units, nerves, and vessels. Each imaging modality has advantages and limitations in various body parts and parts of musculoskeletal radiology, whereas in some parts, either modality may be applied gainfully in a similar fashion. Neither ultrasonography nor MR imaging uses ionizing radiation, making either perfectly suitable for any age group or serial examinations.
