Role of cellular senescence in inflammatory lung diseases

Jing-cheng Dong Ph.D., M.D., Prof., Principal Investigator (PI), Chief Physician, Doctoral Supervisor, and Postdoctoral Co-supervisor. He is currently the Dean of the Institute of Integrative Medicine at Fudan University, the Director of the Department of Integrative Medicine at Huashan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, and the Chairman of the Chinese Traditional Medicine Committee of Minzu Unity and Progress Association of China. He formerly served as the Chief Scientist of the National Basic Research Program of China (“973 Program”) and the Vice President and Secretary General of the World Association of Chinese TCM Practitioners. He has been dedicated to the fields of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and integrative medicine. The systematic results achieved by his research team have provided novel theories and strategies for understanding the role of the “inflammatory/anti-inflammatory balance adjustment mechanism” in inflammatory diseases and neoplastic lesions. Prof. Dong’s lab has a long history of excellence in the pathology of lung inflammation, both in basic and translational research, providing insight into the pathophysiology and treatment of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), as well as investigations into the TCM interventions for these diseases. The laboratory utilizes cutting-edge molecular biology techniques, animal modeling of lung disease, multi-omics integration, and translational studies in humans to understand these disease processes.
