Using a car food tray in dermatosurgical procedure for placing instruments

Problem

While doing dermatosurgical procedures, placing instruments in the vicinity has always been a challenge. For most dermatological procedures, only a few instruments are required in contrast to major surgeries where a large number of instruments are required which necessitates the use of a surgical trolley or a mayo table. Most dermatosurgery theatres/suites have space constraints to accommodate these surgical trollies.

Solution

We suggest the use of a car food tray as a practical substitute to the trolley or mayo tables used by surgeons [Figure 1]. They are available in many sizes and have a clamp which can be fixed on any surface or even the operating table [Figure 2]. They consume zero floor space and their stem is moldable, by means of which they can be set to any height [Figure 3]. It provides a good surface to place the required instruments during a dermatosurgical procedure and takes up very little space. It is easily available online and is very economical. It can be easily sterilized by a disinfectant and/or by keeping a sterilized green sheet over the surface.
