Public Health Rep. 2021;136(4):508–17. https://doi.org/10.1177/00333549211018675. This article addressed an understudied, albeit salient, topic in literature via its investigation of vicarious racism and vigilance during Covid-19 among Asian and Black Americans. Health implications were identified as vicarious racism and vigilance were positively associated with depression and anxiety for both racial groups. Vicarious racism was reported as more frequent during the pandemic than pre-pandemic experiences, resulting in an influx of vigilance for Asian and Black Americans who feared becoming the target of racial discrimination. Thorough considerations are provided regarding vicarious racism being a public health concern as this pandemic persists in addition to the psychological implications of race-based media violence.

In addition to providing a literary discussion on OCD and discrimination, this article discusses the ethnoracial and cultural variations in symptom expression, mental health literacy, and explanatory models. Further, this provides a guideline for addressing challenges which are unique to clients of color, such as stigma.
