A new surgical procedure to treat BPH

In a randomized controlled trial, the efficacy of photoselective sharp enucleation of the prostate (PSEP) with a front-firing 532-nm laser — a new surgical procedure to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — was compared with the standard-of-care technique photoselective vaporization of the prostate (PVP). Patients treated with PSEP or PVP had similar quality of life and urinary outcomes (such as post-void residual volume or maximum flow rate), but PSEP provided the advantage of a reduced operative time, increased amount of tissue removed, and tissue availability for histology.
