The prognostic role of stroma in UTUC

In the multicentre, real world study TSU-01 published in the British Journal of Cancer, the prognostic and predictive value of the tumour:stroma ratio (TSR) were assessed in 1,015 patients who underwent radical nephroureterectomy for upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). Patients with stroma-high tumours (>50% stroma) had poorer survival outcomes (overall survival and cancer-specific survival) than patients with low-stroma UTUC (<50% stroma). High stroma was also associated with a decreased response to chemotherapy. The authors established a TSR-based nomogram that could be integrated into the decision-making process for the treatment of patients with UTUC.
