The environmental risk factors related to uterine leiomyoma: An umbrella review

Uterine leiomyoma (UL) that originate from the uterine myometrium, is the most common benign tumor of the reproductive period[1] and become a major health problem. UL occurs in 20 to 40% of women of reproductive age and is the major cause of hysterectomy[2] and it can have many side effects such as dyspareunia[3], increase the risk of endometriosis, and reduced the quality of life[4, 5]. symptoms include menorrhagia and abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain, parity, menstrual pain, iron deficiency anemia, and urinary complaints[5, 6], however, it is often asymptomatic[7]. The main cause of UL is not known, but it seems that its origin is multifactorial. The reported risk factors in meta-analyses studies associated with UL include obesity, Chronic psychological stress, oral contraceptive(OCP) use, low parity, alcohol intake, positive family history, and smoking[8].

To our knowledge, no umbrella reviews have been performed to assess risk factors related with UL on meta-analyses and systematic reviews. As a result, based on meta-analyses and systematic reviews, the current umbrella review examines risk factors related with UL.
