Gut microbiome changes linked to Parkinson disease

Evidence is accumulating that imbalances in gut microbiome composition are associated with diseases, including neurological disorders such as Parkinson disease (PD). In a new study reported in Nature Communications, Haydeh Payami and colleagues used a metagenomic approach to survey the entire gut microbiome in people with PD, and they identified specific changes that could be linked to the pathogenesis of the disease.
