Clinical commentary extra-uterine high-grade serous carcinoma: Two pathways, two preventions?

ElsevierVolume 169, February 2023, Pages 1-3Gynecologic OncologyAuthor links open overlay panelHighlights•

Extrauterine high grade serous carcinomas have their origin in the distal fallopian tube

“Genomic catastrophe” (chromothripsis) may explain rapid cancer development in the tube

Precursors (STIC) discovered in the tube may precede primary peritoneal cancers by many years.

Preventing rapidly developing cancer entails removing the tubes prior to tumor onset.

If STIC is discovered, preventing late recurrences entails preemptively removing escaped precursor cells.
