The epigenetic correlation among ovarian cancer, endometriosis and PCOS: A review

Ms. Lakshmi Unnikrishnan is pursuing master’s in Biotechnology. She earned undergraduate degree in Biotechnology from SRM Institute of Science and Technology during which she is performing some experiments in Breast and Ovarian cancer. She is deeply interested in cancer biology and her aspirations to explore more about the field in her upcoming projects.

Ms. P. K. Harinee Throwba is a student currently pursuing her Master's degree in Biotechnology. Previously, she did her undergraduate degree in Biotechnology at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, she is very ambitious working in ovarian cancers as part of her research projects.

Ms. Meghna Pangath is a bio-engineering graduate who has completed her schooling in the International Indian School at Dammam, Saudi Arabia. She has completed her undergraduate program and received her Bachelor’s in Technology in Biotechnology at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, India. During the course of her undergraduate program, she has enthusiastic to take this project that focuses on cancer research.

Dr. Karthick Vasudevan is an experienced bioinformatic scientist who is passionate about in finding out new clues for treating the infectious diseases and cancer using advanced genomic and proteomics approaches. I have more than 10 years of academic research experience. Dr. Vaudevan have worked extensively on processing of data from next generation sequencing platforms and submitted more than 100 bacterial genomes to NCBI. Being a genomics scientist, he well versed with R and python programming languages and use it to standardize the bioinformatics analysis pipeline. He organized, attended and presented at major international conferences/workshops. As a part of his bioinformatics research, he published in the major international peer-reviewed journals like nature communication, genomics and microbial genomics.

Dr. Selvaraj Jayaraman, working as Associate Professor of Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals in the Department of Biochemistry since 2018. He completed his PhD (Endocrinology) from Dr. ALM PGIBMS, University of Madras, India and has 13 years of research and teaching experience in the field of Diabetes and Cancer. Dr. Jayaraman is a recipient of grants from DST-SERB, Government India and TNSCST, Government of Tamil Nadu (TNSCST) worth Rs. 69 Lakhs. He has been awarded several research fellowships like UGC-JRF, CSIR-SRF and UGC-PDF etc. He has published several research articles of repute and is a guide for Ph.D program. He is a reviewer of reputed journals. He has conducted several workshops and presented his findings in national and international seminar/symposia. The Selvaraj Lab is interested in molecular aspects of insulin resistance, phytotherapeutics in diabetes and cancer.

Prof. Li Min obtained her bachelor’s degree from the Henan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), China, in 1985, her master’s degree in Chinese Medicine at the Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, China, in 1988 and her PhD degree in Cardiology at the School of Medicine, Tokai University, Japan, in 2001. Then she joined the School of Chinese Medicine, Hong Kong Baptist University, where she is currently Associate Dean of School of Chinese Medicine, Program Director of Bachelor of Chinese Medicine & Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biomedical Science and Master of Chinese Medicine programs, and Director of Mr. and Mrs. Ko Chi Ming Centre for Parkinson's Disease Research. Prof. Li received an Award of the Distinguished Female Chinese Medicine Practitioner by the China Association of Chinese medicine in 2007, School's Award for Outstanding Performance in Scholarly Work in 2012 and President's Award for Outstanding Performance in Teaching from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2013. Prof. Li's clinical specialty is in Chinese medicine treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson's disease (PD), Alzheimer's disease (AD) and vascular dementia (VD), as well as on cardio-cerebrovascular diseases.

Dr. Iyaswamy Ashok is currently a Research Assistant Professor at School of Chinese Medicine. He graduated with B.Sc. degree in 2005 at Madurai Kamaraj University and M.Sc. degree in 2007 at University of Madras respectively. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Physiology and Neuroscience from Institute of Basic Medical Science at University of Madras in 2015. He then received postdoctoral training at the School of Chinese Medicine of Hong Kong Baptist University from 2014 to 2020. Dr. Ashok's research interests are: Understanding the molecular mechanisms and pathophysiology of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. Developing potential methods for brain drug delivery system and biomaterials for diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases. Identifying possible benefits of Chinese herbal medicine for prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

Dr. Kanagaraj Palaniyandi earned a B.Sc., and M.Sc., Zoology degrees from Bharathidasan University, a M.Phil., and Ph.D. degrees in Endocrinology from University of Madras. He is a recipient of Prof. N.J. Chinoy’s best presentation award in 24th SRBCE in the year 2006, subsequently, recipient of many best presentation awards. Dr. Palaniyandi received postdoctoral training from Mayo Clinic, University of Mississippi and University of Kansas Medical Centre. During his tenure, he identified the epigenetic regulation of cancer stem cells and drug resistance in breast and pancreatic cancers. His discoveries enlighten the identification of KMD3A inhibitors and its pivotal roles in circumvent pancreatic cancer and metastasis. Dr. Palaniyandi joined as an Assistant Professor in SRMIST to find potential inhibitors for KDM3A. He published more than 30 research articles in the field of endocrine-related cancer. He successfully completed two research grants and trained many students. He recently received Membership in Reproduction and Endocrinology award, Reproductive Biology and Comparative Endocrinology (SRBCE) conferred in 2022.

Dr. Dhanavathy Gnanasampanthapandian (Grace) earned M.Sc., degree with distinction of Gold Medal in Medical Biochemistry from Christian Medical College Hospital (CMCH), Vellore and Gold medal awardee from honorable President of India, Dr. Pranab Mukherjee for an additional master’s degree of M.Tech. from VIT, Vellore. She earned M.Phil, and Ph.D. degrees in Biotechnology from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University and SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) respectively. She has also distinguished best outgoing student award during her M.Sc., degree in Medical Biochemistry from CMCH-2001, Vellore. Dr.Grace, during her tenure as Visitor Researcher in CMCH, Vellore, has received Fluid Research grant. Dr. Grace joined as an Assistant Professor in SRMIST and during her research tenure she is working on the PCOS and epigenetic markers of cancer stem cells and multidrug resistance in ovarian and endometrial cancers. Recently, she received an industrial grant to screen anticancer compounds against ovarian and endometrial cancers. She has published more than ten international articles in peer-reviewed journals with high-impact factor.
