Editorial overview: Virus structure and expression

José Castón is a Professor and group leader at the National Center for Biotechnology of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Madrid, Spain. In his research, he studies structure–function–evolutionary relationships of viral complexes using a multidisciplinary approach, which includes state-of-the-art cryo-EM. Our studies have led to the development of virus-based nanotechnological applications. He received his PhD in Biochemistry from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and was a post-doc at the NIH.

Adam Zlotnick is a Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry at Indiana University. His research relates the structure of virus capsid proteins to their self-assembly, with a focus on the core protein of Hepatitis B Virus. To translate his research into therapeutics he co-founded Assembly Biosciences (2012) in and Door Pharmaceuticals (2018). Dr. Zlotnick is also a fellow of the AAM and of the AAAS. He earned his PhD at Purdue University and was a post-doc at the NIH.
