97 QU Students Participate in White Coat Ceremony

The College of Medicine (CMED) at Qatar University (QU) organized the Annual White Coat Ceremony to highlight the responsibility that students will feel towards their work and their patients while performing in medical field.
The event aimed to celebrate the second-year Medical students who successfully completed their transition year and entered the Medicine program. It is designed to acknowledge the students’ commitment to the profession and reassert values of compassion, professionalism, and dedication to patient care, as they enter the medical profession. The number of the honored students reached 97 out of them 60 were Qataris.

During the ceremony, Prof. Asmaa Al-Thani, Vice President of the University for Medical Sciences, congratulated the students, in a message that was presented during the ceremony, in which she recommended that the students arm themselves with science, perseverance, hard work, patience and pursuit of excellence.

In a statement on this occasion, Dr. Marwan Abu Hijleh, Dean of the College of Medicine at Qatar University, said: “This celebration aims to transfer the students of the College of Medicine from the first-year stage to the second-year stage in the innovative and creative medical program that depends on the student’s centrality in medical education. It comes as an affirmation of the students’ commitment to the values of the medical profession and patient care. Wearing the white coat for the first time means a lot and a lot in the lives of medical students because it signifies the students’ responsibility to become future doctors and devote their lives to practicing the profession in accordance with the highest international and humanitarian standards.”

For his part, Dr. Mubarak Bidmos, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the College of Medicine said: “Dear students, I would like to remind you that you must balance your expertise in science with compassion and empathy. You will wear white coats in your clinical education training period such as: clinical skills sessions, PHCC visits and clinical rotations in hospitals. Therefore, wearing a white coat during these activities gives you a sense of responsibility and privilege.”

Dr. Halema Al Faris, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at the College of Medicine, congratulated the students, saying: "First of all, I would like to congratulate you on your acceptance into the College of Medicine at Qatar University. As Qatar University proudly completed its progress at a steady pace, to be on the verge of entering the list of The best 200 universities in the world, according to the QS rankings for the year 2022, Qatar University ranked 224, jumping from 245th place in the 2021 classification, achieving an increase of 21 positions over its version last year of the same classification.”

She indicated that the College of Medicine at Qatar University is striving to occupy advanced positions internationally and globally, and so far, the College of Medicine has graduated two batches of distinguished doctors who are currently working at Hamad Medical Corporation.

The College of Medicine aims to make contributions to medical education, patient care, medical research and community outreach and is fully aligned with Qatar’s national strategies in Education and Health, as well as Qatar University’s strategic plan.
